Palace On Wheel Tour

The Palace on Wheels was the first of four luxury trains on Indian Railways. It was launched to promote tourism in Rajasthan and has been highly popular since its launch.

Palace on Wheels was started on the 26th January 1982. The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, The Indian Railways, the Tourism Department of Rajasthan and the Government of India launched Palace on Wheels as a special heritage tourist train for providing a unique and memorable experience to the tourists visiting India.

Fourteen fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons are dressed in delicate cream with fine borders of flowers. 14 saloons are made up of 104 passenger berths in double - bedded cabins. The 14 coaches of this luxury train are named after the princely states of Rajasthan Alwar, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Bundi, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Kota, Sirohi and Udaipur.

The train has two lavish restaurants "The Maharaja" and "The Maharani" with a Rajasthani ambience serving palate tickling Continental, Chinese, India and Rajasthani cuisines.For, along with the restored carriages-some still glowing with their original teakwood panels intact-came liveried attendants, royal repasts from the attached kitchen, a lounge, and a dining car.
Destination covered by the train from New Delhi railway station, and during its end day journey travels around Rajasthan, with stops in Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittaurgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur, and Agra. During the train travel, trip includes visits to a number of sights, including Hawa Mahal (the Palace of Winds), Ranthambhore National Park, Jag Niwas (Lake Palace), the Jag Mandir (City Palace), Keoladeo National Park, and the Taj Mahal.
